Folding the American Flag

  1. Two persons facing each other, hold the flag waist high and horizontally between them.
  2. The lower striped section is folded, lengthwise, over the blue field. Hold bottom to top and edges together securely.
  3. Fold the flag again, lengthwise, folded edge to open edge.
  4. A triangular fold is started along the length of the flag, from the end to the heading by bringing the striped corner of the folded edge to meet the open edge.
  5. The outer point is turned inward parallel with the open edge, forming a second triangle.
  6. Repeat the triangular folding until the entire length of the flag is folded.
  7. When the flag is completely folded only the triangular blue field should be visible.

Memorial Day ,originally know as Decoration Day, The day is set aside to honor membersof America's armed forces who lost their lives in wartime.It was declared a national holiday by Congress,to be observed on the last Monday in May.The traditional recognition of Memorial Day is to decorate the graves of war dead with American flags.

Did you know that in Wateroo,New York is the officially considered the "birthplace"of  Memorial Day because it was the frist to make the practice of honoring the Civil War dead a citywide event when it held its frist Decoration Day in 1866.

Many people confuse Memorial Day and Veterans Day,Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in service of their country,paticuarly those whodied in battle or as a result of wounds sustainedin battle.While those who died are also remembered on Veterans Day,Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor All those who served honorably in the military-in wartime or peacetime.
